SHOW & SHINE -- 08 December 2015

Some of our quilters have been busy this past month.  Wait 'til you see these quilts.  Five quilters brought 11 projects.  This doesn't include the 47 Wheelchair quilts that were dropped off at the entrance.

1.  Gail Erickson...
     a.  This jean quilt cost her several broken needles but what a wonderful
          quilt.
The next photo shows the back.
        b.  This is a very delicate, and well made Christmas Countdown
             Wall hanging.
        c.  Gail told us she decided yesterday to make this cute table runner.
There were several gasps from the group.  The back of the runner
used up the remaining fabric pretty much completely.

2.  Heidi Sharp has been very efficient this past month.
     a.  Not strictly a quilt, Heidi showed her crocheted, entralac throw.
      b.  This is a quillow for her granddaughter.  This has beautiful machine embroidery of horses.  Once opened the second picture shows what it looks like.
       c.  Here is the second quillow.  This granddaughter loves kittens so, kittens it was.

 3.  Joan Strang bought a set of templates.  One of these templates helped her create this beautiful quilt.
      a.

4.  Linda Scott ...
     a.  This amazing redwork quilt besides having a border of various sizes and block types has a center panel that is completely hand embroidered.  There are three close-ups of parts of this panel.

b.  This is the second time Linda has made this pattern.  It is one of the first patterns put out by Heart to Heart.  This is Nancy Halvorsen's company.
 c.  Another project not strictly a quilt was sooooo cute.  This crocheted owl is a bunting bag.

 5.  Sylvia Pankhurst...
      a.  Sylvia is interested in the Underground Railroad that ran from the U.S. to Canada that runaway slaves took to be free.  This quilt is made including the quilt blocks that were used to pass information of what to do and the direction to take.  To further demonstrate the uniqueness of each block they are quilted with a different pattern.  The back is the easiest way to see the quilting.
           - The next photo shows the blocks from the front.
           - The final photo is the explanation of each block.  This label is attached to the back of the quilt.

SHOW & SHINE -- 09 March 2015

Show & Shine was busy again this month.  Altogether we had 9 quilters showing 13 projects!   Let's get started.

1.  Sharon Quinton
     a. Snowman Applique Quilt
Sharon is on the right and Heidi Sharp is on the left.
      b.  Bears Paw Quilt
What wonderful colours!  It was machine quilted by a friend.

2.  Corinne Allred
     a.  Cut the Scrap Quilt
Great way to use up those scraps.
Absolutely wonderful Corrine.

Corrine used a fleece blanket to back her quilt.
You can see the stitch in the ditch quilting
from the back of the quilt better than
from the front.
3.  Helen Wilde
     a.  Free Moda Bakeshop Quilt Pattern.  Click here for pattern.
What a gorgeously coloured, beautifully made quilt Helen!
     b.  Stars Pattern Quilt
Oops, it's the wrong way around.  Regardless of
which way you look at this quilt you've got to admire it.
4.  Joan Strang
     a.  This is a cross-stitched quilt she started when she was 18 years old. It took her 1 month to cross-stitch the first block. Joan said her mother is surely looking down at her saying, "Finished, she's finally finished."
Joan Strang's wonderfully quilted & cross-stitched quilt.
The first block she stitched was the corner piece
closest to her.

member Jo-Anne.
5.  Judy Salmon
     a.  Extra-long quilt in blues and browns.  This is a replacement to a quilt made by her mother-in-law for her husband.  Even though his mother's quilt is worn out he still uses it.
Judy, our round robin quilt top winner,
prepares to show her quilt.

6.  Betty Trudeau
     a.  St Patrick's Day Wall Quilt.  Betty designed the pattern herself and offers it to anyone interested. I will ask Betty if she'd mind if I posted the pattern on the blog.

Betty's finished St. Patrick's Day wall quilt.

     b.  "I Spy" quilt using the cathedral window pattern that Kathy Palmer demonstrated last month.

7.  LaRea McKinnon
     a.  T-Shirt Quilt.  This quilt uses a special stabilizer. You can purchase the stabilizer at Marshalls.  It is 60" wide and under $5.00/m. She brought a sample of the stabilizer that was passed around.

LaRae reminded anyone thinking of making
this quilt, to keep strips of leftovers to use
as fillers to lengthen the quilt rows as
required.
Some of the T-Shirts have information on the back & front.  LaRea has appliqued the second image onto the first.  Take a look at the Kodiaks square. "Kodiaks" is appliqued onto the block.

8.  Jo-Anne Schindler
     a.  Charm Pack Patchwork Table Runner.   This is her first attempt at free-motion machine quilting.  Jo-Anne found that she had better luck using a standard presser foot.  Practice makes Perfect.  Our first try always looks better than we think.  Keep at it Jo-Anne!

Jo-Anne's quilting shows clearest near her left shoulder.
9.  Shirley Paulson
     a.  Charm Pack Star Quilt in red and cream with white surrounding the star.

thank you to Heidi Sharp for acting as associate quilt hanger.

Till next month ... Keep on quilting!
